When I enrolled in EPM this fall-- I was feeling pretty good about my ability to help my clients get through some pretty tough stuff-- from tragic loss, to significant breakups and job concerns, to major health worries. However, no matter how good my approach was for an individual person, and no matter the rave reviews of the breakthroughs, i just was frustrated with not being able to get clear on my audience and my market and message... so that i could actually talk consistently to prospects about what they could hope to accomplish by working with me. I didn't think i needed to go through the entire process of niching down and honing in on my client avatar-- I just couldn't make up my mind about what my promise would be to my prospective clients. -- I could help so many types of people with so many different outcomes. However. I committed to taking an MVP approach -- Minimal Viable Approach-- ( this was really a bit of an effort for the perfectionist side of me that wanted to get it right from the get-go.) I soon discovered that if I continued to pay attention to the side-door coaching ( learning from how other's were coached when they took actions) then i would take away valuable ways to approach action in my coaching business every time I attended our large group or smaller pod zoom meetings. The new perspectives and ways to position how i spoke about my business got into my bones... and i found that i could easily speak about my coaching -- without needing to get it "right". I just started having more conversations-- which really meant i started to listen more.-- That was the big key for me in making my first sale-- i reconnected with a friend i had not seen in nearly 10 years-- and she asked what i was up to-- so i shared what i did in a way that invited her to share what was foremost in her life-- and she just started sharing about problems i knew i could support her through. So i just invited her to join me for a catch up lunch at our local Panera. I just listened and allowed her to be heard and acknowledged until she asked for a specific way in which one of my coaching tools could address her specific problem. At that point she was wondering how soon we might be able to get to work together on resolving her problem. She talked herself into the solution-- I just told her how much time it take, and what the investment would be. She made a choice and said yes-- "Let's do it!" and wrote a check to me for the full amount.
