"I was struggling with finding another income source after a motorcycle crash (with traumatic brain injury) years ago left me unable to do “regular” work. I felt lost and frustrated and before this tried (and paid for!) many different courses to find a good fit for me. I don’t even remember how I found Marissa’s courses, but somehow I did and then I joined Marissa’s MVP program. That’s when I learned that even though I was a “Jill of all trades and master of none” I could still create online webinars/workshops. I took action by completing this course step by step and ended up feeling a lot more confident about my future – even though I almost gave up! Here is my story of “three feet from finishing”…
Three Feet From Finishing: My Journey to Completing the MVP Course
This journey was equal parts fascinating, exhausting, and oddly fun—a rollercoaster ride that almost didn’t cross the finish line. I’d started strong, but as the holidays approached, life decided to throw a sucker punch.
Out of nowhere, my wife was struck by a critical bowel obstruction that turned into a life-threatening emergency. It was terrifying. The next thing I knew, we were in the ER, and I was watching her endure the agony of an NG tube insertion—a procedure I’d seen hundreds of times as a nurse but never imagined I’d witness someone I love endure. Even with my years as a director of nursing, knowing the medical risks, the options, and every step of the process, nothing prepared me for how helpless I’d feel watching her suffer.
The days blurred into weeks as she underwent major surgery and recovered in the hospital. My world became a cycle of hospital visits, dog walks, and trying to keep the pieces of our life together. My course? Completely forgotten. When she finally came home, she was so weak she could barely lift a glass of water, let alone her spirits. I was physically and emotionally drained.
Every time I thought about the course, it felt like an Everest I didn’t have the strength to climb. I was paralyzed. Giving up seemed like the only realistic option. And then, out of nowhere, Coach Shayla’s email landed in my inbox—a lifeline I didn’t know I needed. Her message didn’t just nudge me; it reminded me that I wasn’t actually buried in tasks. I was just three feet from finishing.
I told my wife about my plan to tackle the final milestones, set up in my office, and promised her I’d drop everything if she needed me. Slowly but surely, I chipped away. One milestone down. Then two-thirds of the next. Before I knew it, I’d done it. I’d finished the MVP track! My launch plan, pivots, and webinar framework were complete.
Looking back, it was a messy, emotional, nearly derailed journey, but I made it. I’m deeply grateful for the support of the program, the VIP coaching, and especially Shayla’s perfectly timed encouragement. My program, which will help people thrive in toxic workplaces, is officially ready to launch.
And while I’ll still catch up on Marissa’s super track sessions (eventually), for now, I’m pausing to celebrate. Because in the middle of chaos, heartache, and doubt, I didn’t give up. I found the strength to finish. And that’s worth every ounce of the struggle.
